What is a JSON Web Token (JWT)?

JSON Web Tokens (JWT) are an open standard (RFC 7519) for securely transmitting authentication claims between two parties. A JWT consists of three Base64URL-encoded parts separated by dots: `Header.Payload.Signature`.

Inspect JWT claims safely using our JWT Decoder Tool.

JWT Token Structure

  • Header: Specifies token type (`JWT`) and signing algorithm (`HS256`, `RS256`).
  • Payload: Contains claim statements such as user ID, role permissions, and token expiration timestamp (`exp`).
  • Signature: Verifies token authenticity using a secret key.

How to Decode JWT Tokens

  1. Open the JWT Decoder.
  2. Paste your JWT token string into the input field.
  3. View decoded JSON Header and Payload claims instantly.
