What is a Cryptographic Hash Function?

A cryptographic hash function takes an input string of any length and converts it into a fixed-size string of hexadecimal characters. Cryptographic hashes are one-way functions: it is computationally impossible to invert a hash back into original input data.

Generate hashes online using our Hash Generator Tool.

Common Hash Algorithms

  • MD5: 128-bit hash string. Used for non-cryptographic checksum verification.
  • SHA-256: 256-bit hash algorithm widely used in SSL certificates, Git commits, and Bitcoin mining.
  • SHA-512: 512-bit high-security hashing algorithm for enterprise security applications.

How to Generate Cryptographic Hashes

  1. Open the Hash Generator tool.
  2. Type or paste your text string into the box.
  3. View calculated MD5, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hash values simultaneously.
